Children’s Activities in the Leith Lyvennet Parishes
JAM (Jesus and Me)
JAM (Jesus and Me) services are held once a month during term time in three of our churches. The local nursery schools attend along with their teachers and helpers, and all pre-school children are welcome to come along with their parents or carers. During the service we have a short, interactive Bible story, a song, and a craft activity, followed by refreshments. It’s a gentle and accessible introduction to church for young children.
The pattern of services usually is:
- Morland, the third Monday of the month;
- Bolton, the third Wednesday of the month;
- Crosby Ravensworth, the fourth Monday of the month,
all at 9.30am. Check for dates in the first page of the Parish Newsletter.
SNACK: The Bible in Bite-Sized Chunks.
This is a Fresh Expression of church, which is run by a small group of local mums. We meet on an irregular basis, often in one of the village halls, to give our primary school aged and pre-school aged children an experience of church, adapted to meet their needs. The sessions may involve any or all of these things:
- a Bible story,
- craft activities,
- games,
- songs,
- prayer,
- and always food.
We try and create sessions that are fun, family-friendly, and easy to join in with, especially for those who are not used to coming to traditional church. It’s a relaxed way to access the Christian faith as a family.
Keep an eye on the first page of the Parish Newsletter to find out when the next SNACK event is happening.
Eden Live Youth Congregation.
Young people from Year 6 and upwards are invited to come to The Vicarage every Wednesday from 4pm to 5.30pm during term time, for hot chocolate with all the trimmings, any amount of biscuits, and activities centred around the Christian faith. There’s a lot of silliness, but amid all of that we have some serious discussions. It’s an enjoyable way for young people to explore the Christian faith in more depth, and to ask all those questions about life, the universe and everything. And if you get there first, you get a seat on the comfortable Vicarage sofa.
Children on Sundays.
Children are welcome to all of our Sunday services, but some services are particularly resourced with children in mind. Look out for the children’s symbol in the service schedule in the Parish Newsletter.
Activities in church may involve all or some of the following:
- children’s work-sheets,
- a Sunday School at the back of Church,
- a toy corner or toy bags.
