Come and celebrate at St Lawrence, Crosby Ravensworth
Sunday January 26th 2020 will be 10 years, almost to the day, when we received confirmation at the 11th hour [+ 59 minutes] from the Church Commissioners at central office in London that we could, after all the then PCC’s efforts, remain open without prejudice or worry. For nine months before this, the church was physically closed.
So it would seem appropriate that we celebrate this extraordinary turn-around. We want to invite you to put on the layers, collect the family and come to join us on this auspicious day. We have made improvements all around St Lawrence, which we want to show off and many of you with your families have enjoyed the extraordinary space of this ‘God-house dwelling’ over these years. We do believe it is a place where God and people meet.
There will be coffee/tea and home made biccies from 10.15am for the service beginning at 11.00am. This service will not be of more formal, Holy Communion type but a family-friendly Songs of Praise, when we hope you/your children will free to wander about, grab another coffee, use the facilities etc. . At the same time, there will be a recognisable structure: we are the C of E after all.
If we were to identify one person, who helped to engender that turn-around 10 years ago, it would be the then Archdeacon of Carlisle, under whose wing we came. He asked awkward questions, gave us high bars to clamber over before the Diocese could recommend us to the Commissioners for a re-think. So we are glad that he, the Ven. Kevin Roberts, will return to preach for us, with the service taken by our present incumbent, friend and Rural Dean, Rev Stewart Fyfe.
We, the present PCC, look forward to welcoming you and to another 10 years after this.
