FAMILY HISTORIANS
IF YOU COME TO MORLAND IN SEARCH OF YOUR ANCESTORS THERE IS A FOLDER AT THE BACK OF CHURCH WITH A LIST OF NAMES AND LOCATION OF MEMORIALS, AND A PLAN OF THE CHURCHYARD
If the inscriptions are illegible you may find the details in
‘MEMORIAL INSCRIPTIONS OF ST LAURENCE MORLAND’
obtainable from Cumbria Family History society
or http://www.genuki.org.uk/big/eng/WES/Morland/MIsBellasis.htm is for early transcripts
The Parish Registers are in the Archives office in Kendal together with Hearth Registers and Churchwardens’ papers which give an interesting insight into life in the village in the past.
Follow this link to our War Memorial website.
It contains details of all the parishioners who were killed in WW1.
Of course we were one of the lucky villages where all those who served in WW2 came home safely.
Follow this link to find a page about a book written from the diaries of a resident, Mrs Shorrock, written before and during WW2.
